Description
This brilliant collection of performance poetry takes readers back to 1989 when Onayemi set-up the Rhythm Writers. the highlight of this time was supporting Pulitzer prize winner Toni Morrison. Onayemi’s debut book includes a provocative poem about the Notting Hill race riots which she performed on BBC Radio 5’s ‘Talking Poetry’. She expresses her own experiences as well as her family’s oral history to illustrate how living with lack of respect and insecurity can undermine our ability to speak up.
